Christians In Orissa (India)

November 20, 2008

A report out today says that Hindu extremist groups are offering rewards for the killing of Christians. They are offering as much as $250 to kill pastors. Offers include foreign liquor, chicken, mutton and weapons.

Orissa has suffered a series of murders and arson attacks in recent months, with at least 67 Christians killed, according to the Roman Catholic Church. Several thousand homes have been razed and hundreds of places of worship destroyed, and crops are now wasting in the fields. In recent weeks, the violence has subsided but at least 11,000 Christian refugees remain in camps in Kandhamal, the district worst affected.

Pray for Believers in Orissa, India.

Persecution in Eritrea

June 11, 2008

On May 28, Eritrean police arrested 34 evangelical Christians in the city of Keren, Eritrea. Eritrea is located on the eastern coast of Africa and borders Sudan and Ethiopia. According to Compass Direct News, “The Christians, who are members of the Berhane Hiwet (Light of Life) Church, were meeting in a private home for prayer and fellowship. All 24 men and 10 women present in the meeting were taken to prison, with their children left behind. The next day security officials transferred the women prisoners to the Adi-Abeyto Military Confinement facility on the outskirts of the capital city of Asmara.” Pray for the release of Eritrean Christians who are imprisoned for the sake of Christ. Ask God to strengthen and comfort their families, especially the children. Pray that the Eritrean government will respect the rights of Christians to freely worship their Lord. Ephesians 1: 19-23
