Update on the Giveaway

October 22, 2008

Everybody wants to know WHEN we will post the winner of the ESV Study Bible.  The answer is: tonight!  We have decided that we will draw the name of our winner at Bible study this evening.  After church, we will post the name of the winner here on the blog.  A big thank you to everyone who responded.  This has been fun!

Yesterday at church we were reminded that God’s grace in Christ not only saves us, it trains us.  If Christianity is a house, grace isn’t received just to come through the front door but to walk through every room.  God’s undeserved kindness and love, secured through the cross, teaches us day in and day out to renounce ungodliness and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives as we wait to see Jesus (Titus 2:11-14).

Solomon understood our need to be trained by grace every day.  His benediction to Israel at the completion of the temple is a stunning foreshadowing of this gospel truth:

May [the Lord our God] not leave us or forsake us, that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his statutes, and his rules, which he commanded our fathers….  May he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires (1 Kings 8:57-59).

I’ve joined Solomon is his prayer on behalf of Concord.  May the Lord incline our hearts to him today and maintain our cause, that we might train for godliness with all our might.

ESV Study Bible Giveaway

October 15, 2008

Do you see this brand new ESV Study Bible?  Right now, it’s sitting on my desk.  Next week, it could be sitting in your hands.  Aaron, Drew, and I thought it would be fun and edifying to give away a copy.  If you’re not sure why we’re jazzed about “the most comprehensive study Bible ever created,” then you probably haven’t seen this

Who will be the winner?

  1. A member of Concord Baptist Church,
  2. who posts a comment.

Sorry non-Concordians, but we want to bless our church with this one.  Members, posting only your name is fine, unless you want to say more.  And for those of you who are wondering if commenting more than once will increase your chances of winning, it won’t.  We’re only going to count your name one time, you greedy person.

We will randomly select a winner one week from today, Wednesday, October 22.  Comment away….
