Family Worship

JT pointed to an encouraging post by James Grant on “family worship.”  It’s a great place to start for fathers who are uncertain about leading a family in devotions.  He has three simple steps:

  1. Plan to have family worship after an evening meal
  2. Read through a good book (like the Jesus Storybook Bible)
  3. Say the Lord’s prayer after reading the book

Read his entire post here.

What a great way to start!  Now, this is clearly aimed at families with younger children, but older kids could benefit from a devotional reading or a book you are slowly reading through together.  Grant uses the Lord’s Prayer as a starting point, and you can grow from there in your prayer time together.  Of course, I’d recommend the valuable habit of singing a song or hymn together, even if it is one verse.  The songs we sing are full of truth about Christ, and singing them together reinforces that these songs “aren’t just true at church.”

If you need a hymnal for your home, email me.  I’d love to give you one.

Concord has always been generous in her mission giving, and even in uncertain economic times you’ve given generously and in faith towards the goal of reaching the nations with the gospel. The Missions Committee set an ambitious goal of $60,000 for 2008. The Lord has stirred you up to exceed that goal with an offering of $67,000! Praise the Lord!
